"I have been an English and Social Studies educator and/or tutor for over twenty-five years.
My approach to tutoring is to assess the student’s goals, strengths, and weaknesses then develop a plan in conjunction with the student and parents to enhance the strengths and overcome the shortcomings. I am a very clear communicator and believe that life-long learning is very important so I strive to provide instruction that is not only accessible and informative but also relevant and interesting.
My credentials include having four college degrees (AA in Liberal Arts, B.ed in Education, MA in Teaching, and MA in English). I taught at Walled Lake Western High School for over twenty years. The English classes I taught are 9th- and 10th-grade honors and general English, 11th-grade general English, Creative Writing (and I have published a book on that course and a novel), Mythology, and Literature on Film. The Social Studies classes I taught are World History, Sociology, and Civics. I also taught Theory of Knowledge (an International Baccalaureate course). I was Western’s Teacher of the Year in 2003 and was nominated again in 2013, 2014, and 2116. I was also featured in the Oakland Press Article “Teacher of the Week” on April 7, 2011.
After I retired from public school in 2017, I worked at private school, Brightmont Academy. There, I worked one-on-one with students to help them navigate and be successful with the online curriculum they used.
I also started a small honors/college-level tutoring business in 2012, which I still run today.
I love working with young people and look forward to doing so for many years to come." less...
