"I love to share the ‘Oh My God; it’s so easy, it makes sense now!’ moments with my students, when any problem that seems very hard to them, turns into something which they can solve easily.
My primary area of expertise is chemistry. I hold undergraduate degrees in chemistry, biology, and education. My Master's degree is also in chemistry, with a concentration in physical chemistry, and I have completed my doctorate in chemistry from the City University of New York. My teaching experience includes Independent High School teaching in New York City, home tutoring New York City high/middle/elementary school students on an individual basis (7 years), and teaching college freshmen in traditional classroom settings of small groups (11 years). I have taught chemistry, biology, and mathematics to hundreds of students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds, including African American, Latino, Asian and Caucasian.
A strong conceptual understanding of technical subjects is a general prerequisite for obtaining higher grades; therefore, in my lesson plans the first step is to strengthen a student's grasp of the fundamental concepts in science. Following this, I work with my students to develop an optimal learning strategy that includes practice worksheets, conceptual questioning and time management for improving test scores. I ensure my students receive clear and comprehensive instructions in science and mathematics, including further guidance on difficult topics in these areas.
I believe that no single teaching strategy is suitable for everyone, and my approach to each student is personalized, conditioned on one's educational background, social constraints, time management skills, language preference, and intrinsic talents. I view myself (the tutor) as an educational partner for parents and community schools, and I look forward to being an integral part of my students' progress through higher test scores, greater confidence, and an enthusiasm for learning." less...
