"Hi, I'm Don! I found my passion for mathematics in college while taking the prerequisite calculus sequence for my Geology major. I enjoyed the material so much I decided to enroll in at least one math course each semester until it was no longer fun. Well, I ended up taking all of the courses offered by the Math Department, and completed a second major in math! The ideas and connections that unfolded just continued to get deeper, and I finally understood what people meant when they said math was beautiful. My students appreciate that I like use some of these insights when I tutor to show people why the material they're currently working on is important, how it connects to the bigger picture, and show how it manifests in future courses they may take in the future.
Teaching others is my number one calling. I've been doing so since I was an undergraduate student working in the math tutoring center of my college, through to my Teaching Assistant jobs in graduate school. I have worked with students from all backgrounds, abilities, and levels, from elementary school to graduate school.
I tutor Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Differential Calculus, Integral Calculus, Calculus 1, Calculus 2, Calculus 3, Multivariable Calculus, Vector Calculus, Differential Equations, Dynamical Systems, Linear Algebra, IB Diploma Math Subjects, IB Precalculus, IB Analysis, IB Calculus, SAT math, and ACT math
I hold Bachelor's degrees in Mathematics and Geology from Fort Lewis College, a Master's degree from the University of Tennessee, and a PhD from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech). Since completing my PhD I have followed my passion for tutoring students in mathematics and helping them succeed and thrive for over 10 years.
I'm easy to reach so please feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a session!" less...
