"Hi, I’m Alex! I have a Master’s in Recent American History with six years of ESL tutoring experience. I began my tutoring career volunteering at public libraries, and I discovered that I love finding easy-to-understand ways to explain the English language. This laid the foundation for the way I help students understand various eras of history. As both a high school and college tutor, I enjoy getting to know students, what they’re interested in, and how their minds work so I can find the best learning method.

For history, there are so many fascinating and meaningful parts of history, and I love helping students find easier ways to memorize while making it fun. With English, I enjoy helping students understand the material and then put their thoughts on paper. When I help ESL learners, my one-on-one tutoring methods are flexible because I want to make sure that I adapt to their level of English and their goals. For high school and college ELL, I can help with homework and explain what each part means so you can understand what to do. With formal writing for anyone, I can explain formal language while teaching new vocabulary and the differences between synonyms. While taking university-level TESOL courses, I’ve dedicated time to learning the confusing and interesting parts of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

While getting my Master’s, I worked in the university’s writing center online for two years, helping students with every type of written assignment from essays to literature reviews. After I graduated, I worked at a tutoring company as a high school in-person tutor for English and History as well as test prep for AP History and English classes. My one-on-one, group, in-person, and online tutoring experiences have helped me to be accommodating and adaptable.
