"I am a graduate of Yale University with multiple master's degrees in business and quantitative finance. I attended UNC-Chapel Hill for undergrad, earning degrees in business and economics, with honors. Although I work as a hedge fund investment professional, I have found great joy in tutoring middle school through college level students in economics, finance, math, statistics, English/writing, and test prep. I want students to achieve their goals and unlock their potential.
One of my most memorable experiences was helping a middle school student who was struggling in math. I began by creating a safe and welcoming environment, building a strong rapport, and getting to know his interests (basketball, music), strengths (calculation ability), and weaknesses (focus). I designed lessons that were relevant and engaging to him by incorporating real-life examples and scenarios. For example, many of our practice questions were basketball themed: "If a basketball team scores an average of 65 points per game and they want to increase their average score to 75 points per game, how many more points do they need to score per game on average?" I provided regular feedback, both positive and constructive, celebrated his successes, and identified areas where he could improve.
I also recognized that each student learns differently and tailored my teaching approach to fit his unique needs and learning style. I emphasized the importance of independent learning and provided him with resources and strategies to help him study effectively on his own. After several weeks, he became more confident in his abilities and earned an A on his next math test. I am thrilled to watch my students succeed.
Accessibility is also important to me, and I am always available to my students and their parents for questions, concerns, or additional support. My goal is to help each student achieve their full potential and become independent learners, instilling a passion for learning and empowering them to achieve their academic and professional goal" less...
