"My name is Mitchell and I am a recent college graduate currently working as a Financial Analyst, looking to offer tutoring services in the Lake County area. I studied Finance with a minor in Economics at Fordham University in New York City, and graduated Magna cum laude in 2023. I grew up in the Lake Villa area, and graduated from Grayslake North in 2019.

Throughout high school, I was part of a volunteer tutoring program in which I spent 2-3 days a week, for 45 minutes at a time, tutoring students at my school in small groups of 2-3 people. I tutored various subjects including English and History, but primarily taught AP Macro and Microeconomics to Sophomores and older. I also tutored my peers in college in more specific subjects like Financial Accounting, Linear Algebra, and more, though less frequently.

Overall, I have found that the best way to tutor a student is to understand their strengths and weaknesses for a particular subject, and focus on the weaknesses, all while having a positive and relaxed attitude. Doing so ensures an efficient use of time, as well as an effective study process. For instance, if a student is struggling in Algebra, I would go through that students homework assignment/ graded work and deduce what the student is proficient in, and what he/she needs help with. Once this is determined, the specific subject matter that the student is struggling with would be explored. I would solve a similar problem for the student, detailing every step I made and why. Then I would have the student solve example problems of varying complexity, starting with simple ones, and eventually getting to more difficult problems. This process would continue until the student can adequately comprehend and solve the material. In doing this, I would maintain a positive and relaxed attitude. Tutoring can get stressful, and often times the student may get irritated, but a good attitude on behalf of the tutor can almost always mitigate this." less...
