"I'm Melanie. I graduated from Oregon State University with a double major in English literature and writing, and after working as a technical editor for a short period of time, I went back to school at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. There, I earned two Master's degrees: one in English with a concentration in rhetoric and another in education with a concentration in secondary English.
As a military spouse, I've had the opportunity to teach in a number of different settings, locations, and to a range of diverse student populations. I taught high school English in North and South Carolina (all grade levels, both remedial and AP levels) for a total of 4 years before moving to the University level. I worked as an Adjunct professor at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, GA and the University of Miami in Coral Gables where I taught courses in English, literature, writing, and rhetoric. I taught primarily face-to-face courses but have experience with online courses too.
Though I quit teaching nearly ten years ago when I started my own business (an endeavor that proved more flexible for frequent moves and mom of twins), I stayed involved by volunteering to tutor at local high schools. I am an avid reader, writer, and learner. My passion is and always has been student success and growth. I am endlessly passionate about English, writing, and teaching; I'd love to help make the material more accessible and/or relatable for you!
While I'm available to tutor high school and college level English, literature, and writing courses, we can also work together on essays for other subjects. I'm happy to provide test prep and college essay review, as well. Online sessions are my primary preference, but I'm also open for in-person arrangements.
I look forward to working with you!" less...
