"I am a former college professor with a passion for teaching. I have taught children and adults for over 40 years, and have learned that students master material when it is relevant and interesting to them. Too often, material is presented in ways that do not allow students to apply their own experience and intuition to learning . A good teacher adapts to the student. and the key to success includes inspiring ownership of learning. I am very comfortable working with a structured curriculum, or developing curricula and teaching strategies to suit the student. I have been tutoring multiple elementary, high school and adult students online since March 2020.
I received my training in writing instruction while a graduate student at Yale University, and have taught writing for over 30 years. I have taught math for over 40 years. I have developed techniques to help make the material relevant to students. I am able to pinpoint which concepts are giving students difficulty and help them master them.
I am also experienced with home-schooling, both as a parent and a tutor. If you are looking for a tutor to develop curricula for your child, I have many resources from which to draw. I am comfortable teaching all K-8 subjects, as well as advanced Writing & Research Skills, Algebra 1 and AP Psychology. I am fluent in French.
I have a PhD in Developmental Psychology. I was a full-time professor of developmental and cognitive psychology. I have taught a wide range of college-level psychology, social policy and educational policy courses, and have developed and taught writing courses for first year college students. I am published in the area of educational policy, early education, reading, and bilingualism. I have also worked on national educational policy. Since leaving academia, I have been a volunteer tutor for students preparing for the GRE, and have also worked at a substitute teacher.
I look forward to answering any questions you may have, and look forward to guiding you or your child towards mastery." less...
