"My love of acting, writing, and all manner of storytelling led to a career teaching English Literature to 12th-graders in several Texas high schools, including Fort Bend Austin and Kempner. Later I went to law school and have worked as an attorney and as an oil and gas landman in the years since. But my love for teaching persists. I teach Energy Law as an adjunct professor at the University of Houston, Downtown. But teaching the law is just not the same as dabbling in the storytelling arts. I love to write, but when I am not writing, I love to teach kids to write--and to read well the great works written by others.

I am passionate and compassionate, but I am also realistic: some students share my interest in words, others do not. I enjoy the challenge of helping these kids improve. Last week I tutored an accounting major. She loves numbers; she tolerates words. But we had a great time and I was able to help her better understand the difficult questions posed by her college professor. We found a concrete approach to the abstract, "touchy-feely" perspective of her offbeat professor.
