"I'm a current third-year medical student at MCW-Milwaukee who has served as an MCAT tutor for the past two years for junior and senior students in college. I've successfully taken USMLE STEP 1 and in my clinical rotations preparing for STEP 2. Additionally, before medical school I taught HS Biology and AP Biology for two years while I was a TFA corps member. I have a Master of Arts in Education from Alverno College. My teaching certification is in Broadfield Science in Wisconsin and is listed on the Wisconsin DPI website, set to expire in 6/30/2025. With that certification I could teach Biology, Chemistry, Physics, etc in Wisconsin. In college while obtaining a bachelor's in science degree in Biochemistry and Neurobiology, I served as a peer mentor and tutored college Biology for 2 years. Also, in high school, I was an Algebra 1 and Geometry tutor for 2 years while in NHS.
I've taught in a variety of settings and with a variety of students: classroom, one on one, and volunteer. Classroom settings for teaching HS Biology (freshman and juniors/seniors in college), one on one for MCAT tutoring (junior/senior in college), and then volunteer for the peer mentor Biology tutoring (sophomore college students). During sessions, I like to ask students about what they understand and then connect new information they are learning with things they already know so they can learn information better. I like to make students more confident and praise them for their hard work and when they are getting questions right to build confidence in themselves. I'm comfortable teaching virtually on Zoom too and gave most of my first year teaching lessons on Zoom since I taught during the COVID pandemic. Looking forward to working with any potentially interested students!" less...
