"Hello! My name is Isabel and I have a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and Latin American and Caribbean Studies from the College of Charleston. I possess an Advanced Mid level bilingual proficiency: essentially, this means that I can speak, read, write, and understand Spanish fluently. I attribute my bilingual abilities in part to my education, and in part to teaching abroad in Spain! After teaching English for one year as a Language and Culture Assistant, I returned to The United States and used languages skills I had honed in Barcelona to teach Spanish 1 and 2 at the High School level.

From the moment I started studying Spanish, I knew it had potential to become my specialty. While I was in college, I tutored students in 100-300 level Spanish courses and lead conversation based classes. I attended extracurricular activities like Spanish Club to continue practicing my Spanish, and I became president of the College of Charleston's National Collegiate Spanish Honor's Society Chapter. To this day, I find myself constantly practicing my Spanish in any way that I can: I love watching shows like "Caso Cerrado" on youtube, conversing with my friends who live in Spain, and reading a good book in Spanish.

I understand first hand that learning another language is one of the most challenging, yet rewarding skills to hone. Therefore, if students need to reach out with any questions or concerns outside of tutoring sessions, they are more than welcome to do so. I believe that there should be no shame in learning a language, and one should have the courage to make mistakes and ask questions whenever it is possible." less...
