"Hi, I'm Hailey! I'm an alumni of the University of Michigan, with a degree in English and Political Science, and a former teacher. I taught special education for two years at both the high school and elementary grade levels and covered all subjects including math, science, and literacy. I excel in teaching K-6 concepts, but also have a passion for the writing process for older students, be it for high school essays, college entrance essays, etc.
My teaching style emphasizes the "I Do, We Do, You Do" gradual release of responsibility method - which provides teacher modeling from my end and a scaffolded learning process for the student. In my professional experience, this teaching style has proved to be accessible across grades and comprehension levels. Importantly, students often respond quickly to this method as it is popularly used by their in-classroom teachers; reinforcing student learning 1:1 in this familiar method provides the opportunity for me to individualize the delivery and reinforcement of the concept, as well as provide quick and deliberate feedback to the student in a way that they best respond to.
While I put great emphasis on this structured learning style, I teach most effectively by delivering and reinforcing content using creative and interactive approaches. Most often, standardized learning is not the way a student best learns, so it is my goal to meet each student where they are at in their individualized learning style (kinetic, visual, auditory, etc.) and guide them towards the standardized success expected in school.
Importantly, I respect that each guardian is often the expert in their child's individualized needs, so it is imperative that I work with my student's as well as their families (as applicable) throughout the tutoring partnership. Please reach out with any additional questions, or if you would like to schedule a tutoring session. I look forward to working with you!" less...
