"I am a former math professor with over 20 years experience tutoring and teaching math at the high school and college levels and over 5 years experience as a data analyst for a large healthcare-services corporation. I love to play music and have a background in music/jazz theory, french horn performance and electric bass performance. Besides spending time playing music and video games with my family, I enjoy learning new languages as way to learn about history and new cultures.
My favorite part about tutoring is the one-on-one interaction and reaching that 'Ah ha!' moment. Particularly with math where the skills are all mental, it is important to be able to start from a shared understanding and build the concepts from there. One-on-one tutoring allows for quickly filling knowledge gaps, thus reaching that moment of understanding a lot more efficiently.
I started tutoring my classmates when I took calculus in high school; I continued tutoring various undergraduate math courses from Algebra, Trigonometry and Statistics up through Differential Equations and Linear Algebra throughout my undergraduate and graduate studies. As a professor, I've taught various math courses from undergraduate level differential equations, linear algebra, abstract algebra, real/complex analysis, topology, set theory and combinatorics up through graduate-level differential equations and special topics course. If it's covered in an undergraduate math curriculum, I've probably taught it.
I'm here to help. Please let me know what course-level, course, topic and any other information you think would be helpful to start our discussion. I look forward to working with you!" less...
