"I am a 22 yr old mathematics major from Drexel University with over 2 years of experience teaching in the school's math resource center multiple times a week. Other Drexel University students would come in with questions from any one of the math classes the school offered. I would walk them through problems, helping them grasp math concepts that they might have been struggling with. I have worked with middle school, high school, and college students in the past as a tutor. When working with students I try to have the student walk me through the problem to the best of their ability in order to get an idea of what they are having trouble with. I then work them through the problem step-by-step using what they do know to explain the solution. Once we’ve solved the problem I always try to give other examples of similar problems in order to make sure that they actually understand the concept, rather than that solution to the specific problem. By breaking down the problem into multiple parts and having the student eventually solve other problems on their own, I feel that I am able to effectively teach students new math concepts that they were previously struggling with.
At school, I received Drexel’s highest non-athletic scholarship, was admitted to Drexel’s Pennoni Honors college, and graduated Cum Laude. Two months after my graduation, I passed the first of 3 CFA exams, which is one of most challenging distinctions to obtain in the financial industry, requiring around 300 hours of studying per exam to pass, according to the CFA Institute. I’ve also done 6-month, full time internships for BlackRock, JPMorgan Chase, and Blue Cross Blue Shield in between semesters at school.
When I'm not working or studying I snowboard, golf, hang out with friends, and work out. I have a passion for math, and I really enjoy working with people, especially when it comes to tutoring. I understand that math can be a very difficult and stressful topic for many, which is why I enjoy helping people understand it a little better." less...
