"Hello everyone, my name is Alex, I am currently a physics PhD graduate student, with a bachelor’s degree in applied physics. For refence, I graduated high school with a 2.0, and began my higher education journey by attending community college. My first math class in community college was Intermediate Algebra, essentially a high school level algebra 2 course. It was a long road from then to Differential Equations, but I believe this experience makes me uniquely suited for tutoring. I have developed a deep relationship with learning and the skills that enabled me to reach my current academic standing have given me a unique set of tools to help students with. In the last few years, I’ve had the opportunity to teach and tutor a variety of people.
I worked in the math tutoring center at Valencia College where I received formal training. I learned various skills and techniques for instructing individuals as well as important math techniques such as GEMDAS vs PEMDAS. More recently I’ve been working as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, where I teach and support students in classes ranging from algebra-based physics 1 to calculus-based physics 2. I am very confident in my ability to tutor, teach, and support students from very elementary math and science to more complicated subjects. Even if I were to encounter some area that I may not be familiar with, I am confident in my ability to learn and distribute the information in a more digestible form. In both positions I have taught in groups or individually with no issue. Aside from skills and experience, I believe the most important traits needed are patience and empathy, both of which I am well versed in. I will make it my mission to ensure the success of any student that I encounter and will work to the best of my ability to provide a great experience." less...
