My name is Emily VanHoorebeke, and I am a dual History and French MA student at Texas Tech University and Lubbock native.

I began my French studies under Ms. Patterson at Evans Junior High about a decade ago and continued them under Ms. Beasley of Lubbock High after that. I graduated from Lubbock High School as a National Merit Scholar with a 4.68 GPA.

During my undergraduate studies at Texas Tech I took the opportunity to study abroad in a Francophone country, Senegal in West Africa, where I both improved my French skills and began my studies in Wolof, an indigenous language. While at Tech, I pursued an undergraduate degree in history with an emphasis on European history and popular factual errors, ie the things we all believe about history or the narratives of history which have no basis in fact. I graduated from Texas Tech summa cum laude and immediately enrolled in graduate school to further pursue my studies.

I have just finished my first year as an MA student in the history and French departments, an endeavor that involved analytical thinking and speaking in two languages. Though I am most proficient in French and English, I have also studied, in varying degrees, Italian, Wolof, Attic Greek, and Latin, so I am well versed in the essential elements of grammar and sentence composition. I have spent the best of my own time studying the renaissance era, nineteenth century France, book culture, and intellectual transmission. I have also, however, worked as a teaching assistant for the entire academic year and have worked with heavily with both United States' history and world history, so I am well versed in the broad narratives and concepts of both of these areas as well.

I can aid any students who wish to study French, European history, American history, or world history over the summer, whether it be to pass the AP exam or for the joy of learning." less...
