"Hi, I'm Karan, and I've been teaching, coaching, and tutoring for almost a decade. My educational background is that of a physicist, and in my time studying astrophysics at UC San Diego I've developed a very strong understanding of math, physics, and computer science-- and I'm confident that I can relay the fundamental concepts of these disciplines to any student!
I've been tutoring math, English, and science for middle schoolers and high schoolers since 2014, and I've also coached speech and debate in one of the most competitive leagues in the United States for several years, with several of my students winning awards at tournaments on the state and national level. My first line of approach when it comes to working with any student is to determine their level of ability, as well as their level of confidence. A lot of students' academic struggles can also be rooted back to misunderstanding of fundamentals that would need to be covered in courses years before, and I have no issues with working on those foundational skills with my students.
The vast majority of my tutoring experience has either been one-on-one, or with small groups of 3-4 students. I find that keeping group sizes smaller allows me to cater to the individual needs of each student more easily, and in small group environments, students developing a rapport with their colleagues can increase their motivation to learn and study.
While the immediate goal of tutoring for students may be to increase test scores, improve grades, or catch up on material where falling behind, my long term goal with each student is to ensure that they feel confident about the material and in their own skills as a student-- additionally, I try to develop strong fundamentals in each student, as well as good study habits and tips for self-motivation in order to make sure that even after I am no longer tutoring them, they have the skills they need to have self-sufficient academic success." less...
