"Hi there! I'm Jay - I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Cornell University with a double major in Spanish and Economics and a 4.0 GPA. I am a Phi Beta Kappa honor society member and the winner of the 2021 J.G White Scholarship for Spanish Excellence and the 2016 National Spanish Exam. I am also a 15+ year guitarist, songwriter, and producer with music available on all streaming services. My best learning has occurred in environments which encourage student participation and inspire confidence. That's why my goal as a tutor is to develop in my students both the subject-specific skills and the self-assurance to actively engage with their education, whether academic or creative. Learning is a process full of mistakes and questions. I strive to be kind, approachable, and encouraging so that my students feel empowered to ask questions and correct misunderstandings, leading to a more positive and comfortable relationship with the material.

My tutoring experience includes years of academic writing instruction, including proofreading and editing, and Spanish speaking/writing tutoring at middle school, high school, and college levels, and 5+ years of guitar and bass lessons. I have also coached undergraduate and grad school applicants through writing their application essays. I've taught in classroom and online settings, though at this time I am focusing primarily on online instruction.
