"Hi! My name is Amiel, and I graduated magna cum laude from Southwestern University, majoring in Anthropology and Feminist Studies. I was named the 2018 Mellon Undergraduate Fellow in Anthropology, and in 2020, I was awarded the Gwen Kennedy Neville Award for Anthropology for being the department's outstanding senior. In 2023, I was named a Fulbright Fellow for the US Fulbright Student Program in the Philippines.
I worked as a Peer Writing Consultant at the Debby Ellis Writing Center for 3 years, helping over 130 student writers from various disciplines develop their writing skills. I can help with anything writing-related, including grammar, organization, sentence structure, and transitions. I’ve also edited and given feedback on college and grad applications, helping clients get accepted into Harvard University’s Divinity School and Rutgers’ and UT Health’s biostatistics programs. Since 2020, I've worked as a Writing Consultant for Wyzant, helping all sorts of clients (from undergraduates to master's students to job seekers). By sharpening their essays, cover letters, and resumes, I've helped them strengthen their papers and acceptances to places like the California Department of Public Health.
3 words that describe my approach to tutoring are: communication, engagement, and patience. You can expect me to ask you lots of questions so I can understand your goals and how best to assist you with your assignment. I also try to be honest and direct when giving feedback. As a writer myself, I know how hard writing can be, which is why I endeavor to be patient with students. Helping them through their writing journey and seeing them meet their goals is something I celebrate. As a note, I only do virtual tutoring at this time, and asynchronous edits will be provided via "suggesting" mode in Google Docs. Feel free to contact me with questions!" less...
