"I've played with various coding languages, as a hobby for over twenty years. And in 2017 worked as a code instructor at an afterschool program in NY for the 7-14 age group. There I taught things like modding and programming video games, programming virtual bots and coding hardware interfaces. Before that, I worked in tech support for several years, so I have a lot of experience with communicating technical ideas in a digestible way. And I now have a certification in Full-stack software development from Hack Reactor, which focused on Node.js full-stack applications using: HTML, CSS, Javascript, Node/Express.js, jQuery, React, Axios, MySQL, MongoDB, Axios, and API integration.
On Wyzant, I've mostly done project-specific sessions. My approach is to try to find a balance between specific/practical solutions, and going through the steps of a proper trouble shooting protocol. My ultimate goal is to make myself obsolete as a tutor. If I can help you become comfortable with the concepts and self-sufficient in your learning, then I feel I've done my job. As those are really the job-ready skills a developer needs.
In terms of subject matter, I stick to my core competencies: HTML, CSS, Javascript, and React. Which is front-end focused, but I can absolutely help with (node based) back-end development. And as I get requests for many other languages I'd like to say: yes, the languages generally use the same logic, so I could figure it out easily enough. But as a tutor I believe that it would be a disservice for me to try and make those translations on the fly, as it will not be an efficient use of your time, which you are paying for. Ergo, I would not be willing to hold lessons for coding languages other than Javascript. Though I welcome questions any time, if there might be something I can help demystify, even if it's not in a language I would formally teach. I hope you're doing awesome, I wish you all the best on your journey and if I can do anything to help let me know!" less...
