"I love physics and I love teaching physics! Helping students understand and connect physics to the things they see in the world around them is my favorite thing to do! I graduated summa cum laude with a BS majoring in physics and mathematics, and I have a PhD in physics from Lehigh University specializing in theoretical quantum mechanics. I did a lot of tutoring in college and grad school. I have over ten years experience teaching physics at the college level. During that time, I taught calculus based physics every semester, so I am an excellent resource for introductory physics, calculus, and trigonometry. I regularly met with students one-on-one or in small groups to answer questions they had, clarify points they were unsure about, and go through example problems to make sure they understood. I focus on developing problem solving skills, which can be applied to many subjects, by practicing on lots of examples that demonstrate the specific physics content. I got wonderful student reviews of my teaching, because I care about my students and their learning, so it's important to me they reach their learning goals and have fun doing it.
In teaching and tutoring, I approach physics from as many perspectives as possible. Everyone learns differently, so finding how students connect with a topic forms a solid foundation to build upon. Everyone comes from different backgrounds and levels of preparation, so getting a sense of where students are and meeting them there is the first step. I use lots of examples, both conceptual, related to real life and mathematical with numbers and equations. Math and equations are the language we use to describe what is happening, and I treat it as such, carefully helping students become fluent in the meaning behind the math and the connections between the variables. Many people are intimidated by physics, but together, we can make it relatable, fun, and fascinating! I would be happy to answer any questions you have or help in any way I can- please just reach out or schedule a session!" less...
