"I recently graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a B.S. in Biological Sciences and a minor in Applied Psychology. As a senior, I worked for the Campus Learning Assistance Services as a General Chemistry Teacher and really enjoyed teaching the freshmen to help transition them from High School to College level tests. I hosted review sessions before exams and held regular classes twice a week to help students prepare for midterms and finals. Also as a senior I worked as a learning assistant for an Intro Biology class where the teaching assistant, other learning assistants and I would meet weekly to go over review questions and facilitate discussions in small groups by guiding students through selected topics of biology chosen specifically for their difficulty.
During my Junior year in college I began volunteering with Scitrek, an organization that teaches science to middle and high school students. They do this by developing modules or small experiments for the students to complete along with a packet to help them learn essential science concepts. As a volunteer I would work with a group of students to help them complete the experiment. I later joined the Scitrek student research group, and contributed to the construction of these modules as well as leading an URCA grant funded educational research study on secondary student STEM interest.
I truly enjoy teaching and have 8+ years of experience working with children and young adults. I first began working with kids teaching swim lessons at varying locations including the UCSB recreation center and the Westgate Cabana Club in multiple different sized groups of all ages. In addition to swim lessons I’ve also coached a swim team for the past four years where I primarily worked with high schoolers, planning out complex sets and critiquing technique at an advanced level. Also, as a high school student I began teaching violin at beginning to intermediate levels utilizing my 17 years of experience to create well crafted lesson plans and homework assignments." less...
