"Hi, I'm Darby! I graduated in 2020 with a degree in Earth and Space Exploration (Geological Sciences) and a certificate in Field Geology. During my time in college I focused my courses on mineralogy, petrology, structural geology, and field geology. Prerequisites for these courses include challenging math and science topics such as chemistry, physics, and calculus I-III. Many of these classes would have been impossible without the tutors, TAs, and professors that helped me along the way.
My tutoring experience began in high school as I excelled in math and science courses. I would tutor my peers and my two younger siblings. In college, I worked at a recreation center where I tutored children 3rd-6th grade. My primary and secondary education was not common core; however, in tutoring my siblings and 3rd-6th graders, I have learned many common core principles. My greatest tutoring achievement has been working with a high school student through all four years, passing Chemistry, Algebra I, Geometry I and II, and College Algebra.
My experience with math includes: Geometry, Algebra I and II, College Algebra, Precalculus, Trigonometry, Calculus I, II, and III, and Statistics. These courses have led to my deep understanding in the nature of how numbers work and the interrelationship between mathematical focuses. Although my math skills are outstanding today, I was not a natural mathematician in my former years. Struggling through math when I was younger has helped me become a better tutor today because I can break topics down to their basics and explain the same problem from multiple angles.
