"I am a former language teacher and multi-discipline tutor who loves to work one-on-one with students to help them reach their learning goals and build confidence. I taught Spanish at the middle and high school level at a private school for two years and have tutored in languages, history, science, and English. Currently I am focusing on tutoring college preparatory students and college students in Spanish. Spanish is the only subject I offer online lessons for at this time.
I am a magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Georgetown University (Spanish, Linguistics) and hold a Master of Arts from Regent College (Theology). My greatest teaching strengths lie in language, reading, and literary comprehension; writing and editing skills; and explaining the larger concepts before delving into the smaller details.
As a language teacher, I emphasize mastery over all four components of linguistic proficiency - reading, writing, listening, and speaking - as well as cross-cultural sensitivity. I have travelled extensively throughout Europe and Latin America to learn nuances of language and culture, and studied abroad in Quito, Ecuador.
I was a Spanish major and linguistics minor in college, where I received the Spanish faculty's award for Outstanding Performance, and was inducted into a national Spanish honor society. As a Spanish major, I was required to be proficient in a second language (mine was French).
I am passionate about clear communication. Learning English, literature, and writing are simply a means to becoming a good communicator. In terms of qualifications, I obtained a GRE score of 6/6 for Analytical Writing and scored in the 96% percentile for the verbal section. I have been published in professional journals.
I am comfortable working with students of a variety of ages and levels. As a student, math was challenging for me and I didn't always have the most patient teachers to help me. So, patience in the learning process is a big value to me as I tutor. I hope to connect with you soon!" less...
