I find research fun and make stats simple, working mostly with grad students who seek me out for thesis research +/or their classes. I apologize for it, but stats classes often are not taught well in understandable language. Social work or psychology students are common, but of course I am open to whatever kind of program you are in. Various students also have been in business, linguistics, auditory processing, and medicine. Statistics is pretty much the same regardless of the content area.
I’ve been tutoring and teaching since 1985 when I received my master's degree in biostatistics at the University of Texas School of Public Health. Then I received a master's in epidemiology from Columbia University in 1992. I've been doing this for a long time and I continue because I enjoy it. Explaining statistics in regular, lay language so that people can understand it and apply it is fun for me.
There is a ton of new terminology in statistics - fortunately I am bilingual and can guide you through what it all means. The funny looking symbols are just shorthand that tells you what to do with the numbers. I can show you that too.
Many classes also call on you to use SPSS or SAS to run analyses. Indeed, you’ll want to have the computer do most of the work instead of doing it by hand. But it’s one more thing to master. Learning SPSS with me is kind of like driver’s ed, where you are learning but there’s someone right there to show you how to do each step.
You may be overwhelmed with the whole concept of statistics, or simply want to more fully understand the material. In either case, contact me for a FREE phone consultation (once you are a registered student with WyzAnt). It doesn't cost a penny to talk to me and explore how we might work together to meet your needs." less...
