"I have tutored since my sophomore year in high school and it has been 7 or so years since. I started tutoring and helping family friends' kids with time management and study skills. Then I started creating study guides and made a website for my friends for AP classes we were all in so that we could prepare for the AP exams in May. I began online tutoring as high school was ending and have tutored folks on CHEGG and on Google Hangouts on a myriad of subjects from the life sciences to ACT/SAT Test Prep.
In college I have tutored students, one-on-one and have provided extensive aid, not just on study skills but also adjusting to students needs' such as learning disorders and mental health issues they face in the classroom setting. I love tutoring because when I went through rough patches in my own life, it was my public school teachers and college professors that reached out and mentored me to making better life decisions. I wish to give back that same mentoring/tutoring and so I enjoy working with students of all age ranges so that they too can extract from their potential in doing well academically, socially, and professionally. It's one thing to teach a skill to a young person, but it's a whole other feeling to watch them beam with confidence and resilience over their own ability to self-educate and start teaching others who need help too: that's why I keep coming back to tutor.
I have taken the ACT myself, scoring at 34 on the Math Section on it. I have tutored this subject for 5 years both in-person and online. I have numerous ACT books that I draw examples problems from when I work with my students one on one. For the students I have worked with, their math scores not only increased but their overall confidence in mathematics went up as well.
