"I'm Kelly! I graduated with a Master's degree in Elementary Education from Roosevelt University. I am also a licensed Elementary Education teacher in grades 1-6. Throughout my continued learning, I've realized that the courses that I took to heart the most where the ones where my teachers made the classes enjoyable. These teachers would always be willing to go the extra mile to ensure that their lessons where both engaging and exciting for their students to understand.
One of my fondest memories of my former teachers was during my freshmen year of high school. My algebra teacher Ms. Mehilos taught us the quadratic formula to the tune of the Norte Dame fight song. I never forgot it years after I learned it. I could tell she was passionate about teaching and wanted us all to be successful in her class. I try to bring this style and knowledge into to my tutoring approach to make my lessons exciting and engaging for my students. I plan my lessons to introduce the topic in a fun and creative way like my high school math teacher. I then explicitly teach the material. Afterwards I give my students time to practice the material on their own. I always adjust my teaching based on what my students need because I understand that students learn in different ways.
I have 2 years of classroom teaching experience in 1st grade. Some of the areas that I focused on were addition and subtraction, place value, phonics, and reading comprehension. I have also had 1 year of tutoring experience that focused on reading comprehension. In addition to these experiences, I completed my student teaching in 2nd grade.
I want to make sure that the students I work with benefit as much as possible. I always welcome any suggestions or resources that parents can provide. I am always willing to provide fast responses. Feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a lesson!" less...
