"Hello! My name is Joshua, I am from sunny Southern California, and I have been playing guitar for over a decade. I have played gigs at the Vans HQ with Sum 41, played at NAMM with Donner Guitars, as well as have played at local shows in my local community (such as at the Whiskey a Go-Go, Troubadour, etc.). My favorite genre is metal and hard rock, and some of my favorite bands include Iron Maiden and Avenged Sevenfold I have recently launched my own band called Prophecy, as well as have been part of previous bands before.
I have been teaching music education - specifically guitar - for over 4 years now. I was a summer camp counselor for the School of Rock teaching kids ages 7-15 how to apply better techniques to their instrument, read music, or simply just learn a few chords and rock out! I also ran a music theory club at my local high school, teaching young adult students about the importance of understanding the language of music, whether it be reading treble/bass clef or knowing the modes of music. I have also been teaching one-on-one in-person lessons in my local community for about 3 years now.
Whether you are a beginner, intermediate, or advanced, you may be unaware of plenty of tips and tricks the guitar has. I will teach you more than those silly pentatonic scales your uncle taught you - whether it be three-note per string exercises, how to come up with your own sweep-picking patterns, or simply learning a difficult song to impress those dinner guests your parents like to bring. I like to teach using a method of trial and error, and allowing you as the student to ask as many questions as possible in order for you to truly understand the instrument. It's okay if you don't know what the Dorian mode is - ask away! Asking questions and making mistakes along the way will have you becoming a guitar master in no time!
If wanting to play like Eddie Van Halen or that guy on Guitar Hero is your dream, contact me so that we can make it happen! Shred on!" less...
