"Hello to all students and parents! I'm Harry, but I go by Rob. I am the recipient of a BA in English Literature from Elmira College, as well an AS in Childhood Education with a concentration in English. I have a strong passion for everything that goes into English Lit. and my long-term goal is to teach college English Lit. I have a strong interest in American Literature and Early English Literature (from about 600 A.D.-1600 A.D. i.e. "Beowulf," Sir Thomas Mallory works, the writings of Chretien de Troyes and other Medieval writers), however, my interests also span into the Gothic Genre and others.
I love English and Literature and that is what I feel helps out most when working with others, tutoring and teaching them. In my spare time I do a lot of writing and editing, looking to do my Master's work in Creative Writing. I am also an avid reader and bring in any number of literary works that have been read for pleasure and for classwork into almost every discussion I have when regarding English Lit.
I have a strong background in Education, taking a number of courses in the Education Field (including Cirriculum and Design and Fieldwork). I have worked with students before in a structured educational setting.
My philosophy of tutoring is meeting in a comfortable and thought-provoking atmosphere. I believe that the student, the parent and the tutor must all be comfortable with where they are at, what they are doing, and whom they are with in order to foster the most growth and learning possible. For this to happen, there must be an open vein of communication between tutor, student and parent(s).
In more depth, I believe in finding out from the student what has worked well for them in the past from all subjects: do they do better with hands-on work, or do they better with a lecture setting. I believe in asking questions, as the only way to find out what we do not know is to ask!
If requested, after correspondence, I will submit a copy of my resume." less...
