"I’m David. I graduated magna cum laude in Honors Philosophy from the State University of New York at Buffalo (B.A.); studied Rhetoric at the University of California, Berkeley; earned a master’s (M.A.) and doctorate (Ph.D.) in Philosophy at Vanderbilt University; and received another master’s degree in theological studies and cinema theory (M.T.S.) at Harvard University. I have twenty-five-plus years teaching at the collegiate level in departments of Philosophy, English, and Cinema. I’ve authored or been the contributing editor of twenty books and over a hundred articles, chapters, and reviews; and consulting editor and referee on numerous books for university and trade presses. In addition to teaching introductory courses in philosophy and film studies, advanced courses in analytical reasoning and the Great Books, I’ve also worked as a substitute teacher in public schools (including reading, social studies, and humanities) and taught online in synchronous and asynchronous courses that encourage the virtues of the one-on-one tutorial model.
