"I'm an author, with a nonfiction book forthcoming from Penguin Random House. I have ten years of experience as a college writing professor, teaching creative nonfiction and academic writing in The Writing Seminars at Johns Hopkins and the University Writing Program at George Washington University. At GWU, I won the top university teaching award.
I graduated from Harvard University as an English major, Magna Cum Laude. I have an MA from Johns Hopkins and an MFA in Creative Nonfiction Writing from Goucher. I pursued a Ph.D. in English Literature at UC Berkeley, with a Hewlett University Fellowship and a Jacob Javitz Fellowship from the U.S. Dept. of Education.
For several years I worked for the top-ranked college consulting firm in the U.S., advising and strategizing with students on college and private school admissions and specializing in the college essay. I love helping students find their voices and figure out how their experiences and convictions can come alive in their writing. Because students may be seeking admissions counseling, it's worth mentioning that I was accepted to Ph.D. programs at Princeton, Columbia, UPenn, and Cornell, all with merit-based fellowships.
I'm an experienced editor and proofreader. I also have years of experience teaching and tutoring elementary, middle school, high school, and college students in history, literature, writing, test prep and other subjects. I'm also great with fellowship applications, having won a variety of academic, writing, and travel grants or fellowships, including a Briggs Literary Fellowship, a Ford Foundation Fellowship, a Foreign Language Area Studies Grant, a Phi Beta Kappa Fellowship, and many more.
Please contact me to see how we can best work together. I look forward to chatting about your goals!" less...
