"I'm currently a junior at Harvard College pursuing a BA in Romance Languages and Literatures and History of Art and Architecture. I speak English, Spanish, French, and Italian fluently, and am a tutor focused on helping students with essay writing, including but not limited to the Common App Essay and college applications. I have worked as a private and volunteer tutor virtually and in person since high school for students in 6th through 11th grade in Spanish and in English. I've also been a classroom assistant for pre-k and kindergarten students. Most recently, I have helped candidates with work on medical school applications in both their essays and supplements. My approach to writing depends very much on what the student is looking to improve, but especially for personal statements I concentrate on the quality of the idea and its delivery in clear and authentic writing. The writing process is highly individual, so I'm happy to meet students where they are, from generating ideas to final editing and proofreading. I aim to help with self expression and articulation while solidifying skills in grammar and vocabulary. My own learning style is best suited to interactive lessons, so I steer away from just exchanging edits and try to talk things through so that both sides feel as though they understand the process.
My classes abroad and at college, which highlight material from around the world, have exposed me to many different styles and genres that have allowed me to grow a more global perspective of literature. I have made the most of the opportunity to study at Harvard by engaging with the people around me and learning from both my professors and my peers. As I prepare to write a senior thesis, my research skills are developing through graduate-level seminars where I continue to improve my own organization and clarity. Tutoring helps me to slow down and share what I have learned with other students who want to improve what they are working on or aren't sure where to start." less...
