"Hello! My name is Freddie. I grew up in NYC to a German Mother and Portuguese Father, and feel strongly connected to both cultures. I received a BFA in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design with a concentration in Drawing, and graduated with a 3.85 GPA. Prior to that I studied traditional oil painting for a year in Porto, Portugal.
I am fortunate to have learned from some truly incredible teachers in both high school and university, and seek to bring their enthusiasm and love for teaching to tutoring. My goal is to form a strong learning relationship with students; to teach not only concrete techniques, but also investigate the thinking and feeling that art stimulates. I believe healthy discourse- statements, introspections, disagreements- is an essential part of any learning.
I have some experience teaching first-grade art class at a charter school. I am very patient and serious in my engagement with students; my younger sister is autistic and operates at a roughly 10-y-o level, and with her I learned how to foster self-motivated artistic expression, rather than simply demanding that she carry out tasks.
I can adapt to a wide variety of needs, and am willing to teach any age group. I am familiar with oils, acrylics, pastels and watercolors, among other mediums.
I hope you consider me as your tutor! Don't hesitate to reach out with any questions. I respond quickly." less...
