"Hello! My name is Miles. I have pursued the the world of Biological and Environmental Sciences both academically and as a profession. Currently I am a graduate student in the Biology Department at Western Washington University where I am studying moss diversity and biogeography. I have an undergraduate degree in Environmental Science from The Evergreen State College where I developed a strong skillset in core biology, chemistry, and calculus as well as ecology, botany, taxonomy and GIS.
After college, I worked in ecological restoration and vegetation management where I applied the skills I learned in college. I worked for 7 years for the North Cascades National Park Complex as a biological science technician specializing in plant ecology. In fall of 2021, I returned to school to pursue my masters in biological science. Since, I started at Western, I have developed a strong skillset in statistics and plant biology. over the span of 7 quarters I taught the lab section of biology 204 (Evolution and Biodiversity) which is the first in the biology series for life science majors. During my time as a graduate teaching assistant, I found teaching to be something I loved. During office hours, I provided one-on-one learning opportunities for students struggling with concepts we were working through in class. Over time, I saw students' grades make a strong improvement. As someone who needed tutoring help when I was younger (and even in college!), i understand how hard science can be in a large, fast paced classroom setting. I always learned best in one-on-one settings and hope that I can extend that help to you!" less...
