"I have recently retired after teaching Elementary Special needs students for the past 30+ years. I believe that all children can learn. As a successful teacher, I feel that it is my job to find what works with each individual child to help them achieve success in the classroom and on the state-mandated tests. I have done private tutoring during the last 5 years. I am happy to say that my students were able to be successful in the regular classroom with modifications and have since graduated from the need for tutoring. I am excited to begin a new career as a WyzAnt tutor.
I specialize in Elementary Reading, Language, and Math, although I am very familiar with Science and Social Studies curriculums. I am trained in Dyslexia, as well. I also have ESL certifications, My experience with Special needs students includes working with students with Learning Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Emotional Disturbances, Intellectual deficiencies, Hearing Impairments, Visual Impairments, Speech issues, and ADD/ADHD. I have taught in the Co-Teach classroom, working with any student Special or General) that needed extra assistance in learning. My goal is to determine where each child is in the learning cycle, help with understanding current skills while helping each student to make up deficits in the core subjects. I have equal experiemce in the General Education classroom as well as the Special Education classroom.
I am flexible with my schedule at this time. Make-up sessions will be offered, if needed. I am willing to tutor your child at my house, your house, or at a public library. I have found that students are more at ease in a familiar setting than in a formal setting. I will bring all materials needed for each lesson. It would help me to have input from your child's teachers and school (notes, in-class assessments, FIE's, or other pertinent information) so that I can plan appropriate lessons for your child.
I look forward to meeting you and your child. All children are special. They deserve the be" less...
