"I have taught in both formal and non-formal settings. My goal in tutoring has been to encourage a love for learning on one's own. An accomplished learner is one who can on their own grasp what she has read and is capable of explaining it in her own words before evaluating it.
If you want to read a variety of literary works and in the silence of your own surroundings understand such works without cliff notes, I can be an excellent companion on this journey. My method of teaching reading is interactive. Questions are used to aid the student in becoming an active not a passive learner. These are not questions that require a "yes" or "no" response. Rather they are questions that encourage the student to first see through the eyes of the author. Having accomplished the interpretive task, the student is probed for an evaluation of the author's success in delivering on his promise.
I have an undergraduate degree in Biblical studies and two graduate degrees in philosophy. I have been a teacher in a variety of settings. I have regularly taught Sunday School for over twenty-five years. I lectured on the college level in philosophy, ethics and logic.
