"Getting started as an educator was a happy accident in early 2023 when I decided to switch gears from several years as a software engineer. Drawing on my BA in math years prior from the University of Chicago, I began as a calculus tutor at a company with several in-person locations in the SF Bay Area, and gradually expanded my roster to include students at every level of high-school math. Finally, I began to offer SAT and ACT prep, and in taking numerous practice tests as part of training, it was a relief to score at or above my high school marks of 1530 and 35.
I've also been very fortunate to build deep experience in foreign languages. I began studying Chinese in college and later lived & worked in Beijing for over 4 years, which has made me passionate about tutoring students from absolute beginners up to those striving for a 5 on the AP, especially as the language becomes more widely studied worldwide and instructional methods continue to mature. I'm also qualified in French at the high-school level, and I especially enjoy helping intermediate students solidify their fundamentals toward more advanced study. And, on the off chance you're looking for help with Polish, I happen to be a native speaker, zapraszam!
Being able to help students gain new understanding and skills isn't just a job for me, it's genuinely a good time. My tutoring practice is about creating a two-way conversation, and gaining a deep understanding of a student's goals, challenges, and strengths. In that process, I hope to offer new perspectives and techniques that will make a difference in both the short- and long-term. It's cliched, yet it's true: learning is best kept as a life-long pursuit. Let's make it happen." less...
