I have a bachelors in Geography from Ohio University, a bachelors in Early Childhood ED from The University of Rio Grande which resulted in a licensure of preK-5 general education. I also have a Master’s degree from Ohio University with a K-12 licensure in mild-moderate intervention. I also have a reading endorsement and am Orton-Gillingham trained and certified.

I have taught elementary school for 8 years. 7 years as a reading and math intervention specialist for 1st and 4th grade and one year as a 5th grade reading/ELA gen ed./inclusion teacher. I have privately tutored individuals and small groups for 10 years in both reading and math. I use phonics (OG) heavily in reading and ELA and employ manipulatives for math. The age range of students tutored have been from preK to 12th grade.

My goal is to provide clear instruction and meet you at whatever level you are currently at while working toward whatever goal it is we agree is attainable. I am very calm, patient, and confident. I like to teach/tutor by assessing current abilities as related to the goal and then pre-teaching content or standards in reasonable but appropriately rigorous steps. This would mean a standard session may look like a review of the previous session, pre-teaching our current material, the lesson/activities themselves, and finally a review of that days work and a glimpse into the material for the next session.
