"My name is Shubhan and I graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor's degree in history and minors in Modern Middle Eastern and South Asia studies. In the process of teaching, I learned to recognize the importance of patience. Many students either had little to no background in some of the areas I taught. Therefore, I was inspired to take creative routes, for instance, through the incorporation of multimedia in my teaching. I find that students are best engaged in a topic if it is relevant to them, for instance, by connecting a historical event with the news. In this manner, I make sure to introduce the topic in a clear and fun way -- suited to the student -- before making ample room for students to inquire and find answers on their own, while of course providing a guiding hand.
Over the course of my college years, I have had some experience teaching. I volunteered at MIT's ESP programs where I taught classes in subjects such as Middle Eastern history and politics as well as in philosophy. Prior to that, I also volunteered to tutor high school student in my high school years, while receiving a tutoring award for my work.
