"Hi, I'm Kevin. I teach high school English, writing, and social studies. I graduated with a degree in English Education from Illinois State University, and completed my Master's degree in English Studies from Portland State University. I am also certified to teach high school social studies. This is my 11th year of teaching full time. I come from a family of teachers, so I guess you could say it's in my blood. My mom, uncle, aunts, and several cousins have all become teachers. My brother also majored in English Ed. The most rewarding part of my job is helping my students through difficult material. The way I approach this is to break down a difficult topic into smaller pieces, and then explain it in a way that "clicks" with the student. It's different for everyone. My goal is to find the way that works best for you, whatever that turns out to be. Let's find out together!

I cover a variety of subjects, but English, writing, and social studies are my areas of expertise. I have taught every grade level from 6 through 12. I've taught English 9-12, speech, essay writing, creative writing, journalism, yearbook, US History, World History, and US Government. I find these subjects fascinating and like sharing this enthusiasm with students. Whether you need help with an essay, understanding plot or literary devices in a book, or understanding anything related to history or US Government, I'm happy to help out.
