"Hello I'm Derek! I first began working as a paid tutor as a college student 20 years ago where I worked with the Upward Bound program and found my passion for education. I finished my engineering degree graduating magna cum laude and decided to earn my grade 7-12 mathematics teaching license and Master of Education degree. From there I worked as a high school math teacher for 4 years before deciding to dedicate more time to my family as a stay-at-home parent. I continued to tutor students in math, building a successful small business doing in-home math tutoring, recently I've been focusing on online sessions as well as producing math education content.

I love working with students 1-on-1 because it allows me to know them as a mathematical thinker and help them unlock their potential! I work with students in grades 6-12 in any math course up to pre-calculus but am most experienced with high school mathematics. My emphasis is on math literacy, problem solving, relevance, and deepening math understanding.
