"Hi! I'm Zavier, and I graduated cum laude from Hamilton College in 2024 with an Economics/Philosophy double major. I found my passion for tutoring in high school, where I helped organize the school-wide tutoring program as vice president of the NHS, and I've tutored professionally for over 2000 hours. My approach centers on simplifying hard concepts by providing examples relevant to students' lives and sharing my enthusiasm for the material. I love the magic moment when a difficult math problem "clicks", and I understand the frustration of not getting the way a teacher explains something, so I strive to make tutoring sessions interactive and adjust my approach to meet students' needs.
I have four years of volunteer experience and four years of professional experience tutoring Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, Statistics, SAT prep, and Economics. Typical sessions involve mutually working through homework or practice problems - I focus on asking good questions to help students understand the process and arrive at the answer on their own. My lecturing similarly involves questions and examples to help the student make connections. While teaching trigonometry graphs, we might look at yearly daylight cycles, and while teaching economics, I aim to get at students’ intuitions and valuable lived experience by explaining concepts in terms of their own buying habits and preferences. I've received hundreds of five-star ratings and dozens of reviews highlighting my patience, enthusiasm, and ability to explain difficult concepts.
Other experience includes four years of lifeguarding and two years of consulting for foreign students working towards U.S. university admission. I've scored 5s on AP Calculus AB, Calc BC, Macroeconomics, Statistics, US History, Comp Sci A, and CS Principles; 4s on Microeconomics and Physics E/M; a 35 on the ACT, and a 1510 on the SAT. I carried a GPA of 3.85 and made the Dean’s List during all 8 semesters of college. Please message with any questions - I'm excited to work with you!" less...
