"I’m Bubakar, although I also go by my middle name, Oscar! I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor’s degree in Astronomy-Physics and a minor in Education and Educational Services. Since high school I’ve always felt that STEM fields such as physics can often be very inaccessible to students, especially those that may have not been given proper introductions to such subjects in the past. This led me to start tutoring calculus my junior year of high school wherein I found a love for teaching that continued on into my undergraduate, tutoring students from many different backgrounds. I focus on helping students not only learn about the material, but to really engage with it and scaffold the kind of thinking that will allow them to tackle problems on their own with student-led tutoring exercises such as “Solve aloud, mistakes allowed” or by using online tools such as polls and whiteboards.
Since my start in tutoring I’ve gone on to score a 1490 on the SAT, became a Posse Foundation scholar and alumni, as well as give a talk on my research on neutron stars during an American Physical Society meeting. I have 6+ years of professional tutoring experience primarily focused on physics and mathematics varying over many different levels of each subject and environment. My background mainly includes working directly with students in either one-on-one sessions or of groups of up to 8+ students in biweekly learning teams that occurred alongside their classes that I would plan and lead. I’ve worked both in online and offline environments and classroom settings with high school and undergraduate students at their respective levels. Due to this, I have experience tutoring not only physics but also many fields of math, such as calculus, algebra and trigonometry.
I believe teaching and education to be a very important role in all aspects of life, so feel free to reach out at any time with any suggestions or questions! Contact me to schedule a lesson or just talk about physics and astronomy!" less...
