I've taught at CU for about 7 years now. I've taught upper and lower level composition, Latin, Latin literature, and history. I also teach ACT, SAT, and GRE courses. I was part of the Graduate Teaching Program at CU, and received a number of teaching awards. I have consistently excelled in both formal and informal teaching evaluations. I work heavily with freshmen, so I am intimately aware of the college application process and I enjoy helping students make the transition from high school to college.
I spent last year teaching at Mullen High School. I would say I have a very good rapport with students between the ages of 16 and 24.
I've been tutoring since I was an undergraduate student at University of Michigan. In the Boulder area I've tutored: Latin, Greek, Writing, ACT, SAT, GRE, general academic support, various eras of history, and college prep. I've also tutored for the CU athletics dept. I also focus on working with students who have ADHD (as I also have ADHD).
I hold myself to a high standard when it comes to education. I think it's important to make my expectations clear to the student and to also keep the parents in the loop (if we're talking about HS students). I assign homework between lessons and begin every lesson with an in-depth review of the assignment. I try to tailor my style of teaching to each individual student. Some students need structure, others need motivation, and others just need someone to believe they can do it. I do my best to help every student.
