"I have both a B.S. and a Ph.D. in chemistry, specifically focused on materials chemistry. During my graduate work, I spent 4 years as a teaching assistant at two large R1 universities, mainly teaching the general chemistry level for undergraduate students (high school AP chemistry equivalent) to groups of ~25 students at a time. At both universities I won chemistry department teaching excellence awards, as well as received high ratings during end of semester evaluations from students. Aside from the standard teaching assistant experience, I have also served as a general chemistry guest lecturer to lecture halls of 250+ students, have done free lance 1-on-1 tutoring on college campuses, as well as served as a chemistry research experience mentor for multiple undergraduate students. I have also been hand-selected by chemistry departments to teach classes which were designed to help first generation college students excel in their first year of college chemistry by not only teaching them course work, but general test taking strategies/skills.
While I can't take much credit, students I have taught in the past have successfully gone on to pursue medical school, veterinary school, or their own Ph.D at top ranked schools. I would like to think that their learning experience with me early in their college career helped them succeed down the road. I have developed many lesson plans/problems sets over the years designed for ~1hr chunks and would be happy to help with high school AP chemistry or college level general chemistry courses. I do best if I know what specific topics the student is struggling with, but can also form general lesson plans on the students current course work. I look forward to working with you!" less...
