"Hi, I'm a certified teacher in the Texas area, and I would like to be a tutor for you or your child. I have a master's degree in Education and a bachelor's in English/Language Arts and Secondary Education. I'm trained to tutor most subjects, including basic math, test preparation, writing, English, ESL, reading, and study skills. Do you want you or your child to excel in any of these areas? You should give me a try. I work with clients one-on-one and try to pinpoint their weak areas to develop customized learning plans that not only help them succeed at the task at hand but will also aid them in the future.
I'm also intelligent and flexible and can tutor subjects out-of-field. I find that often problems with a subject can be solved by fixing reading issues, especially in K-12. Likely, your child isn't struggling with some kind of difficult scientific principle or mathematical formula in class; he or she is struggling with basic vocabulary, reading, or study skills. Hiring a licensed chemist or engineer may help fix the problem, but maybe not. Those who are well-versed in their subjects sometimes give in to automaticity, and, when you can't explain your thinking process, you can't help anyone no matter how much you know. Your child doesn't need to know y = mx + b, your child needs to be able to figure out what that means. Sometimes someone unfamiliar with a subject but familiar with finding information can actually provide a better resource at the beginning by modeling effective reading and research habits. There are times, though, that you do benefit from hiring the experts, especially if you are past the easy stuff and want to delve deeper or dealing with children with special needs or possibly undiagnosed learning disabilities.
Anyway, email me if you are interested in my services. My contact information as well as my hourly rate is listed on my profile. I look forward to hearing from you and exploring your unique case." less...
