"Hi, I'm Gracie! I graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in History. Additionally, I have a minor in Criminal Justice and am certified to teach History for grades 7 through 12. I am currently a graduate student pursuing a Master of Arts in History. I taught Texas History at the 7th-grade level for two years. During that time I coached the UIL history team and was nominated for teacher of the year. More recently, I was a teaching assistant for college-level U.S. history courses to high school students in a dual credit and project-based learning program. I was recognized as an outstanding TA for my dedication to student growth and support. I have taught in a variety of environments, from classes of 30 students to university lectures, small focus groups of 5, and even one-on-one sessions. As a teacher, I held after-school and lunch tutoring sessions for students who needed extra support; as a TA I offered academic guidance and writing feedback during office hours virtually and in person.
In my time as an educator, I have centered my teaching philosophy around three pillars: to encourage a growth mindset, promote collaboration and communication, and emphasize a hands-on approach to learning. However, I utilize this approach to adjust my methods to the student's individual needs and goals. Thus, rather than lecturing, I would use tutoring sessions to facilitate student practice and real-time feedback on historical skills such as writing, research, analysis, and even studying. As such, I create lesson plans where students learn by doing to promote engagement. I also enjoy making history fun through humor and finding connections to the present.
I want to benefit student learning as much as possible, so I would love to hear from students or parents prior to the session with needs, goals, suggestions, or specific circumstances. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or to schedule a tutoring session. I am excited to learn alongside you!" less...
