"My name is Rhem, and I'm a current Ph.D. candidate in History with five years of experience guiding, critiquing, and scoring essays at the undergraduate and graduate levels. That time was split between the University of Central Florida and the University of Edinburgh, where I secured a B.A. (magna cum laude) and M.S. (first distinction) in History, respectively. In college, I ran into class headstrong and full of big ideas that I often failed to communicate effectively. To overcome that tendency, I built repeatable processes and strictures (outlines, templates, etc.) that more reliably organized my thoughts, leading to tighter essays that stayed the course over dozens of pages. As a tutor, I want to communicate these skills to students of all ages and levels of education. I use a lesson plan that includes the tools mentioned above but also allows for sessions tailored to a specific writing topic or project of the student’s choice, such as topic selection, structure, and outline strategies. Proofreading services are also available upon request. For history students, I offer graduate-level assistance; for example, on balancing primary sources with secondary historiography, or proper footnote usage. Lastly, I am fluent in Latin and well-equipped to tutor in that subject.
Though I’m new to online tutoring, I spent several years as a teaching aid at the undergraduate level. I often graded papers and extended proofreading services to students struggling with organization or topic selection. I also led a weekly writing group that included many of those same students - a role that helped me better understand how to offer constructive criticism without sacrificing honesty.
Ultimately, I’m here to ensure students have the tools they need to write at a college level, and I feel that I have the tools to steer any hungry pupil in the right direction. Feel free to contact me with any further questions or to schedule a lesson!" less...
