"I am an educator and professional artist with experience in teaching AP World History, standard World History, English, and art. I am a graduate of Washington State University with a BA in History with a concentration on the Middle East and Africa, as well as a graduate of School of Visual Arts in New York City with an MFA in Computer Arts. Additionally I have a Masters in Teaching from Washington State University and am certified in Social Studies/History, English, and Art. I taught for five years previously at Ridgefield High School and helped develop curriculum both in the Social Studies, and Arts departments. While I did not tutor one-on-one, I did teach small AP cohorts to prepare for their World History exams, as well as a small Illustration class for students interested in professional and advanced drawing.
With regards to Social Studies and World History, I place a heavy focus on students working with primary accounts and sources as opposed to more traditional secondary readings. This is especially important in having students develop their ability to read and think critically about the media they consume, and to draw and make larger connections between historical events. In Art, I aim to build confidence, having taught both beginner and advanced students. For beginners, my goal is to get them out of their comfort zones and try something new. For my advanced students, it's looking more closely at their work and seeing how they can push their skills and artistic visions further, be it with experimenting with different mediums, or attempting a more difficult painting or drawing technique." less...
