"I am a retired HS math teacher with 31 years experience. Subjects taught include Alg 1, Geometry, Alg 2, Trig, PreCalc, Econ and Personal Finance. Most of my career I taught upper level honors courses and SAT prep. I have a high success rate in Virginia state SOL testing.

I think it is important to provide multiple strategies for solving math problems while focusing on individual strengths and weaknesses. It is important to assess new students to identify foundational weaknesses or gaps that may be impacting current struggles. When I tutor, I think it is important to focus on one specific task so that students can experience success and gain confidence. Multiple skills should only be addressed when preparing for an upcoming assessment.

As an experienced teacher in the standardized assessment era, I am well trained in specific test taking strategies including the use of graphing calculators. I utilize available online software to aid in instruction and practice as well as sample assessments. I have experience teaching both on line and in person. Often, time constraints or emergencies can be addressed in a zoom call . This need usually arises when students are prepping the night before for a quiz or test and anxiety sets in.

I have a great deal of experience teaching students of various ability levels. This includes running after-school remedial and tutoring programs.
